How to plan the perfect honeymoon
How to plan the perfect honeymoon can be quite a challenging task. With all the preparations for the big day;the flowers, the invitations ,the music and so on, you might just keep postponing the most important part of your new life – your honey moon. The biggest thing to remember is that the pricing policies of all travel related companies take advantage of your delayed decision and the preparations for this once in a life time travel take a lot more planning that you think it will. Below are 7 tips to help you plan the perfect honey moon which I believe you must consider.
1.Pick the right destination.
We all associate the honeymoon with a beach, a nice hotel , and a lot of exotic fruits! Before you jump to the destination that your best friends have tried or that your travel agent suggested there are a few questions that you really need to ask yourself.
What do we enjoy doing together? Your honey moon is a 24/7 time just for the 2 of you, its not an opportunity that will present itself daily and if you haven’t traveled together before its very important that you ask yourself this question. on of the reasons myself and my wife picked France to be the major part of our honeymoon is because we both enjoy gastronomy, we both love to experience food during our travel and what better place to do it than France!
Are we city or Hotel people? I know several couples that enjoyed a honey moon in exceptional, breathtaking luxury hotels. They spent most of the travel time in the Hotel premises and went to the city for a few organised tours by the Hotel itself. Other couples love experiencing the city, finding out whats new, hoping on public transportation and eating in a local street joint. although you can enjoy both the exceptional hotel and exploring the city, don’t spend too much on a hotel you will only sleep in. Decide the priority for both of you before you book.
how much flying does this trip require? Remember that time is money and airplane time is not the best way to spend your honey moon, unless you are flying business class 🙂 although some destinations might seem tempting, a 12 hour flight won’t be. If your planning multiple cities make sure you calculate the total travel time it will consume from you honeymoon. Avoid early departure flights, you are on you honeymoon and its not the best time to have a 4:00 am wake up call
2.Book your honeymoon as early as possible.
As you probably know by now, airlines , hotels , and all travel related business has a very unique pricing structure – I would know believe me as I work in that industry. It is guaranteed that the rates you see today won’t be available tomorrow and the earlier you book the better. Booking a destination and knowing what you will do during your trip are 2 very consuming tasks. If you manage to book your essentials early this will allow you enough time to discover the city before you reach it.
3. Travel agent or online booking?
Each of them has his own advantages, and depends on you travel choices, the limitation of the travel agency lies in the hardship of finding something original, and leaving room for your discovery. I would suggest to give the local travel agent a visit just to see what they offer, it would take you 10 minutes to match the price online and see if you have any advantage. But if your looking for an authentic and original travel experience, the booking and discovery process itself is quite a fun activity to do as a couple.
4. the 70 – 30 rule.
Although I highly advise you to have a concrete daily to do list, with exact locations, means of transportation, and dining ideas. Not only in your honeymoon, but in most travel opportunities, the 70/30 rule works perfectly. Plan 70% of your time and leave 30% for the surprising things you will find once you get to the city. Having that said make sure you prepare all the information you need in advance. the only searching you should do during your honeymoon is the search through talking to locals. Most probably you will visiting a city you haven’t seen before, and getting around if you haven’t made enough research would quite time consuming.
5. Do something neither of you has done before.
The most important part of your honey moon is creating memories, and the best way to create a memory is to try a new experience. Indeed traveling to a new city is a memory of its own, but believe me adding an activity that you haven’t experienced before will spice up your plans. It doesn’t have to be crazy, if your not big fans of sky diving don’t sky dive, it could be as simple as experiencing your first oysters together! as long as its new and you did it together, it creates a memory that will last.
6.Pictures! when, how and how many?
“What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
― Karl Lagerfeld
If you can get your hands on a good camera, and a selfie stick you won’t regret it. There are so many moments that you would want to capture.Make sure you separate between photography time and enjoying yourself time! Don’t be shy to ask people to take your picture, and if you manage to find a photo booth or an opportunity to be shot by a photographer, don’t miss out on it!
7. Tell every Hotel, Every travel agent and every tour organizer that its your honeymoon.
Every business in the world will want to make this experience a more memorable one for you, make sure you mention it in your reservation where ever you go, you don’t imagine how much upgrades and just special touches this might add to your travel! from an upgrade on the room to a honeymoon cake it will just enrich you travel.
